If you’ve competed in or spectated at any Spartan race across the globe, you’re probably familiar with the absolutely unmatched positive energy, the full-fledged display of grit and determination as goals are realized, and the heartwarming community-building and camaraderie that often makes even our toughest and most elite racers tear up at the finish line.
The Spartan community is millions of racers strong and extends across the globe into even the most remote, untouched corners of the planet. It’s the collective love of doing hard things and sharing tough moments with other racers who just get it, even if you have nothing else in common, that make it all so special. Spartan Regional Championships combine the anticipated camaraderie of a typical Spartan race with unbreakable national pride and shared purpose, and allow racers to connect with their Spartan family on their home turf. Here, we’ll explain what Regional Championship races are, how to sign up, and how these events can help you continue forging your path into Competitive Racing and get you one step closer to Spartan World Championships.
What Is a Spartan Regional Championship?
Spartan Regional Championships are community celebration weekends focused on bringing together the respective continent’s Spartan family. This is where the road to the Spartan World Championship begins, but it’s also about far more than competing and earning your spot on the world stage. Regional Championships provide the unique opportunity to represent your nation on a larger stage, experience the intoxicating energy of Spartan ceremonies, and meet Elite athletes as well as Spartan Ambassadors and Nation Leaders to help inspire your own competitive racing journey.
Only athletes holding a valid ID from the region are eligible for Regional Championship podiums and titles, ensuring each champion truly represents their homeland.
The best part? You don’t have to be an Elite athlete or attempting to qualify for World Championships to get in on the action (more on qualification below).
What’s New for the 2026 Regional Championships Calendar
For the 2026 Spartan race calendar, we’re bringing back our European and APAC Regional Championships and – new this year – we’ll convert our PANAM Championship to a North American Championship and open a brand-new Latin American-specific event for even more opportunities for cultural connection and World Champs qualification. It’s going to be an epic year.
Spartan Regional Championship Qualification
The only racers that require strict qualification at a Regional Championship are our Elite-level athletes, who must qualify by earning a top-25 spot at a race within their respective National Series. This means that, as an Elite, you can still qualify for a Regional Championship even if you don’t win your National Series or even any races within it. Neither Age Group racers nor Open racers need to qualify to participate in Regional Championship events, and we encourage racers who want to see if competitive racing is for them – or even those who just want to immerse themselves in the one-of-a-kind atmosphere – to show up and see what you’re made of!
For Elites to qualify at Regional Championships for the succeeding World Championships (Sprint, Super and Beast), they must earn a top-25 finish in any Regional Championship event of the same distance or top-10 finish in any event of a different distance within the qualification period.
Please note: If you sign up for an Elite-level Regional Series race but fail to qualify for the Elite heat by earning a top-25 spot in a National Series Elite-category event, you will be automatically shifted to an Age Group heat at your following event. Some National Series also have nation-specific rule determinations, so be sure to consult our official rulebook if you’re unsure where your qualification and scoring status stands, or for more information on our points system and potential tiebreakers. More on our National Series events can be found here.
Regional Championship Prizes and Finisher Swag
Each Regional Championship will feature a special-edition swag collection, including an intricately and purposefully-designed medal and T-shirt that shows off your nation’s pride, grit, and resolve. Final designs will be revealed in December 2025, so stay tuned to see what you’ll be picking up at your finish line in 2026.
Choose your race, join your continent’s biggest Spartan event, and live the Championship vibes.
