The Trifecta is the ultimate annual Spartan challenge. Racers who complete a Sprint (or Stadion), Super, and Beast (or Ultra) in any order within one calendar year receive three magnetic wedges that clip together to form the elusive Trifecta medal — not to mention bragging rights to last a lifetime.
Under normal circumstances, all three Trifecta-qualifying races must be completed in the same calendar season. But as we continue to live through a global pandemic, it’s safe to say that our circumstances are far from normal. So — as Spartans do — we adjusted and came back better.
The 2021 season is an extended Trifecta year, meaning that any qualifying races completed after Nov. 4, 2019 and before Nov. 7, 2021 will put you one step closer to joining the Trifecta tribe. We’ve riddled the 2021 schedule — click here to view the full schedule — with more Trifecta weekends than EVER. There are a total of nine epic, one-stop-shop chances to earn your Trifecta in just two days. (You can commit NOW with a 2021 U.S. Spartan Trifecta Pass, which gives you access to any three qualifying races this year. It also comes with a complimentary year of the Spartan FIT app, a merch credit, and so many more exclusive benefits.)
We’ve compiled a list of every U.S. Trifecta weekend this year — along with what makes them so incredible — so you can easily map out your path to Trifecta status and prove to yourself (and everyone else) that THIS is your Trifecta year.
Montana Spartan Trifecta Weekend — Bigfork, MT (May 1-2)
The very first Trifecta weekend of the year will take your breath away in more ways than one. You’ll race directly on the shores of Montana’s largest freshwater lake, Flathead Lake, complete with some of the toughest and most rewarding climbs the state has to offer. With race options from Sprint to Ultra, this is the ideal event for racers of all fitness levels to experience the unforgettable views and terrain of Glacier National Park.
Ohio Spartan Trifecta Weekend — Garrettsville, OH (June 5-6)
2021 is a year of firsts, so gear up for the first-ever Trifecta weekend in Ohio, Spartans! The technical terrain of Southington Off-Road Park will send you winding through 1,500 acres of thick forest on Jeep trails — and you know what that means: miles of mud, steep hill climbs, sand, and rock gardens.
The park also has a campground complete with restroom and shower facilities, a 30-acre lake, and two fishing ponds. So, feel free to pitch a tent, pack your fishing pole, and kick it backwoods-style.
Fayetteville Spartan Trifecta Weekend — Spring Lake, NC (June 26-27)
This might be our first Trifecta weekend in North Carolina, but there’s a reason we’re returning to Fayetteville with even more races this season. The Spartan staff voted this venue their favorite of any U.S. race. The venue, McCormick Farms, is family-owned, but don't let that fool you. This 1,000-acre farm is no joke.
Put all of that Trifecta training to use on this weekend’s dense forests, 200-foot deep quarry, rolling hills, and steep riverbanks. It’ll be a hell of a climb, but will leave you with a sense of euphoria you’ve never before experienced.
Utah Spartan Trifecta Weekend — Huntsville, UT (July 17-18)
This course at Mount Ogden hosted the Winter Olympics in 2002, making it a worthy challenge for any Spartan. The 3,000-foot climb to the course’s summit makes this one of the toughest Trifecta weekends on the calendar, but the view from the top makes the trek’s effort more than worth it.
Huntsville — a world-class ski town with a deep-rooted history and a passion for community — is the perfect place for Spartans to expand their existing sense of camaraderie. Racers can take in the Blues, Brews & BBQ concert series on Sunday to relax in the shade, grab a drink, and reflect on a race well run. And this weekend also features a Kids Race, so make sure to bring the entire Spartan family.
Hawaii Spartan Trifecta Weekend — Kane‘ohe, HI (Aug. 21-22)
Hollywood’s “Hawaii Backlot” — named for having been the site of over 60 Hollywood films, television shows, concerts, and music videos since 1955, including Jurassic World (2015) — nearly sells itself. And if traversing the same terrain as Colin Trevorrow’s Indominus rex doesn’t quite convince you that barreling through the lush jungles of Kualoa Ranch — just steps from white-sand beaches — is the ultimate post-COVID bucket list race-cation, we’ve got you covered.
Racers will have unlimited opportunities to experience authentic Hawaiian culture and connect with fellow Spartans at the Friday night luau, and in our partner hotels’ exclusive Spartan Race Lounge. And when you’re done crushing obstacles and logging unforgettable miles, one of the world’s most famous beaches, Waikiki Beach — once occupied by Hawaiian royalty — is just blocks away. Take the whole family (Yes, there’s even a Kids Race this weekend!) for a 20-minute drive to Honolulu for the rich history, the city’s most popular state park, zoos, snorkeling, and demanding hikes with panoramic views. And right in your backyard, the ranch offers tons of incredible tour options, from the Jurassic Adventure Tour to zip lining above jungle canopies to shredding ATVs through the tropical forest.
West Virginia Spartan Trifecta Weekend — Glen Jean, WV (Aug. 28-29)
This weekend is designed to test your grit. With seemingly infinite miles of rolling West Virginia hills and steep inclines, the technical terrain of Summit Bechtel Reserve will build physical and mental strength and provide you with a high that is only fit for the oldest mountain range in the world, the Appalachian Mountains.
Managed by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America, the reserve is a training, scouting, and adventure center that takes Scouts — and Spartans — to their limits and beyond. Six different High Adventure Experience packages offer epic group trips on-site, including kayaking and rafting, rugged ATV river rides, 50+ mile “bikepacking,” shooting sports, and history-infused hiking to get even more down and dirty and hone further in on your Spartan character and leadership.
Seattle North Spartan Trifecta Weekend — Snohomish, WA (Sept. 11-12)
On over 300 acres of lush, abundant greenery and situated directly within the convergence of the Snohomish, Snoqualmie and Skykomish Rivers, the Meadow Wood Equestrian Center is heaven on earth, and we’re ready to give it some hell.
Chase your Trifecta title through the sparkling waters of the Puget Sound and the treacherous, snow-capped Cascade Mountains. With the fresh Pacific Northwest air in your lungs, the intense feeling of freedom will be unshakeable. Plus, you’ll be just a 15-minute drive from one of the Top 10 Main Street Towns in America, Historic Downtown Snohomish.
Tri-State New Jersey Spartan Trifecta Weekend — Vernon, NJ (Oct. 2-3)
This race is not for the weak of heart (or lungs). Welcome to Mountain Creek at Vernon Peak, New Jersey's largest ski mountain and the site of a race crafted to push you past your breaking point and skyrocket you (nearly literally) into the stratosphere.
This weekend boasts the highest elevation gains in both the Sprint (1,730 feet) and Super (2,744 feet) race categories, sending you shooting up and down rocky, steep slopes with absolutely stunning views. And although the ski season at Mountain Creek doesn’t open until December, the mountain hosts an array of other badass, Spartan-worthy activities and events, including zip lining above Mountaintop Lake, cruising down the Alpine Mountain Coaster, 10 unique treetop rope courses, mountain biking, hiking, and so much more.
Central Florida Spartan Trifecta Weekend — TBD (Dec. 11-12)
Central Florida might be flat, but don't let that fool you. We'll be bringing you some very technical running trails to keep you on your toes as you sightsee on foot through the wonderfully-soggy Florida wetland areas.
While our exact venue is still to be determined, we can guarantee that it will tax even the most seasoned runners — just make sure you don't lose a sneaker — while allowing you to chase your Trifecta on some of our most unique terrain. Stay tuned for more details on this incredible weekend.
