Obstacle course racers and hybrid athletes like Spartan, Tough Mudder, and DEKA racers are undoubtedly some of the best athletes in the world. They combine strength, agility, endurance, and mental toughness to overcome the challenges of obstacles, extreme terrain, and functional fitness. They also are able to quickly assess any situation and make decisions on the fly to complete the course efficiently and safely. These athletes must possess the mental grit to push through the physical demands of the course, are a testament to the power of hard work and determination, and are an inspiration to all athletes — no matter the athletic discipline.
Be proud when you commit to any Unbreakable event in 2023, because whether you’re a veteran elite, a returning Age Grouper, or one of the millions of other first-timers looking to settle an office rivalry, you're part of a very unique breed of athletes that does what a lot of others would never do.
The Four Obstacle Course Race Training Coaches That Will Help You Conquer Any Unbreakable Event
Spartan Coaches are the premier provider of obstacle course race and hybrid athletic coaching in the world. Our coaches are the most qualified and involved in the industry, with years of experience in both obstacle course racing and coaching. They have a passion for the sport of OCR, and a commitment to helping athletes of all levels reach their goals.
To create the official 30-Day Unbreakable Training program, we tapped four Spartan coaches that each possess a deadly combination of fitness knowledge and OCR expertise to help any athlete crush their next event and get in the best shape of their life.
Spartan Coach Joe Bala is the founder/owner of Joe Bala Fitness, the Program Director of the DEKA Bay Area Program at CrossFit of Fremont, and the co-founder of Bay Area OCR. He holds a master’s degree in exercise science and kinesiology, and he is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer, a Spartan SGX Coach L2, a Spartan Obstacle Specialist Instructor, a DEKA Coach, a Ninja Warrior, a mental health warrior, a former engineer, and a husband and father of one.
Coach Joe’s mission is to empower people to realize and reach their full potential through fitness. His focus, passion, and purpose is to help improve and maintain his clients' physical and mental health through functional movement, strength and conditioning, and habit and mindset training.
This unbreakable coach has completed 36 Spartan races to date, and originally switched his career as an engineer to a trainer and coach to combat his depression and anxiety. Coach Joe found Spartan and obstacle course racing gave him purpose, as well as brought him true joy and fulfillment. Since then, he’s wanted to help others experience the same, and he's committed to being an example for his wife, daughter, and family to follow on their fitness journey.
Coach Yeniz Parton has been a personal trainer and a fitness coach for over 20 years. She’s the owner of I-F.I.T. Ideal Functional Integrative Training, an obstacle and DEKA-affiliated facility, and she’s also the mother of two boys.
At an early age, Coach Yeniz suffered from severe pain in her joints, and doctors diagnosed her with juvenile arthritis. She started exercising in college and rapidly noticed huge improvements in her overall health. After discovering Spartan races in 2015, she saw an opportunity to help more people and show them that fitness can be fun. So, the dedicated athlete decided to change career directions, got her bachelor’s degree in physical culture, became a certified personal trainer, and eventually became Spartan SGX certified.
Since joining the Spartan community, Coach Yeniz has participated in 83 Spartan races (most of which were at the Elite or Age Group level). In 2019, she finished in sixth place in the Women's Elite category of the National Stadium Series and earned multiple podiums in different OCR races, including six Elite and eight Age Group podiums) and some RX CrossFit competitions. She’s also qualified almost every year since 2015 for the Spartan World Championship Elite-level race, and qualified for the CrossFit Open Quarterfinals in 2021 and 2022. She was even selected to be Team Captain for the Spartan Ultimate Team Challenge, Season 2, on NBC (2017), and participated in a very popular Colombian TV show called Desafio de Super Humanos (2018). Coach Yeniz was also on the cover and featured in the main article in Women’s View, a local magazine.
Coach Christian Bizzotto, based out of Miami, Florida, runs an online one-on-one coaching program where he uses his proven system to help athletes achieve their podium goals. He holds a Spartan SGX L1 and L2 certificate and is the owner of Focused Movement Academy, Miami’s first and only OCR-dedicated facility.
Fifteen years ago, Coach Christian was obese and leading a life filled with violence and questionable decisions. All of that changed when he was in a tragic motorcycle accident. Doctors told him that he was lucky to be alive and would likely need a walker for the rest of his life. Feeling that gratefulness simply to be alive, he was given a second chance and was committed to not waste it. Against all odds, Coach Christian earned his SGX L1 certification, and then his L2 at Riverside Farm in Vermont. Since then, he opened Focused Movement Academy, and has had the opportunity to coach thousands of athletes ranging from age 4 to 70. In 2018, he founded the Warrior Focus Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to providing access to OCR for underserved youth.
Coach Christian says he’s blessed to travel the nation, sharing his passion for OCR and inspiring everyone he meets to be 1% better than the person they were yesterday. When he’s not in the mud, you can find him on the beach or in the woods with his wife, daughter, and two dogs.
Coach Olga Torres, from Waxhaw, North Carolina, received her first fitness instructor certification in 2017 and never looked back. She’s an AFAA Group Fitness Instructor, a Spartan SGX and DEKA Coach, a Spartan Obstacle Specialist, and is the founder and owner of Strive Fitness.
Coach Olga started her OCR career in 2017 shortly after having her first daughter, and has continued falling in love with the sport ever since. She has completed 37 Spartan races so far, and in 2022, she made the Age Group podium 11 out of 12 times, with eight first-place finishes, two second-place finishes, and one third-place finish.
Coach Olga loves helping people reach their fitness goals and considers it an honor to be a part of their journey in health and wellness. She says that fitness brings out the best in people — both physically and mentally — and that teaching is about inspiring and providing challenges that make them better than yesterday.
Outside of fitness and OCR, Coach Olga enjoys spending time with her family (she's a mother of two girls: a 6-year-old and a 16-month-old), cooking, baking, entertaining, and being around people.
