The Snow Devil course is a 6.5-mile loop featuring: • Approximately 1,500 feet of elevation gain per loop • Narrow, technical singletrack • Multiple sustained climbs, including a 1,000-foot climb over ~3 miles • Dense spruce forest sections known as The Labyrinth • Scenic Green Mountain views and a pass by the famous Shrek’s Cabin This is a physically and mentally demanding winter endurance course.

There will be cutoffs. • Final lap must start by 1:00 PM • Course closes at 4:00 PM sharp These cutoffs are strictly enforced for athlete and staff safety.

Weather and Conditions

Typical conditions include: • 6 inches or more of snow • Ice on course • A mix of packed snow, loose snow, and icy sections Conditions can change quickly. Athletes must be prepared for true winter mountain racing.

Mandatory Gear List

All athletes must carry or wear the following: • Winter jacket and backup breathable light jacket • Winter pants • Winter gloves • Waterproof gaiters • Long johns (top and bottom) • Insulated camp booties • Multitool (for snowshoe or binding repairs) • Trekking poles • Headlamp with spare batteries (mandatory) • Sunscreen (SPF 15+) • Lip balm (SPF 15+) Gear checks may occur. Failure to carry required gear may result in penalties or disqualification.

Are Snowshoes Required?

Snowshoes are mandatory for all participants. Snowshoe Requirements: • Minimum of 4 crampons • Minimum size: 21 inches (53.34 cm) long x 7 inches (17.78 cm) wide • Direct shoe-to-snowshoe mounting is allowed • Trail running spikes are NOT allowed Snowshoe requirements will only be modified if snowfall drops below four inches. Any changes will be communicated prior to race weekend.

Drop Bags and/or Warming Areas?

Yes. • A warming tent with a fire will be available at the start/finish area. • This area also serves as the primary drop bag access point.

Finishers Receive

Accepted Answer

Finishers receive the Spartan Hex Medal and an official Snow Devil Finisher Shirt, symbols of endurance forged in winter conditions. For those who dare to take on—and complete—the 100 Mile distance, a Snow Devil 100 Mile Belt Buckle stands as a permanent mark of grit, commitment, and earned respect.

Arrival & Heat Times

Please plan to arrive 90 minutes before your start time. This gives you plenty of time to park, pick up your registration packet, drop your stuff at bag check, and get warmed up. Registration typically opens at 6:00am. Waves of 250 (200 for Stadion) racers will be released every 15 minutes. YOUR exact start time is listed on your barcode and will be posted in your Spartan Account approximately 10 days prior to the event date. NOTE: Spartan is cashless! Arrival Plan to arrive an hour before your start time. This gives you plenty of time to park, pick up your registration packet and get warmed up. What to Bring Your ID, Confirmation Email with QR Code, Hydration and Nutrition. Spectators DEKA events are always incredibly spectator friendly, so be sure to invite your biggest fans to come cheer you on. Spectators can save time upon arrival at the venue by purchasing a spectator ticket in advance.
