Spartan Stories | Katrin Davidsdottir

In 2016, Iceland’s Katrin Davíðsdóttir won her second consecutive CrossFit Games title. In doing so she joined her countrywoman Annie Thorisdóttir (2011-2012) in winning multiple honors as the “Fittest Woman on Earth.”

On December 16, 2017, Davíðsdóttir — who currently lives in Boston and trains at CrossFit New England — returned to her homeland of Fire and Ice to compete in her first Spartan Race.

CrossFit’s workouts are based on functional movements performed at high intensity, which aligns with a Spartan training philosophy that emphasizes strength, endurance, and mental grit. Spartan events focus on sport and athleticism, pushing the bodies and minds of competitors to the limit across miles of unforgiving terrain while they conquer signature obstacles such as the Spear Throw, Bucket Brigade, and Barbed Wire Crawl.

In this video piece on her experience, Davíðsdóttir offers her advice for achieving seemingly impossible goals:

“When you give something everything you have,” she says. “Magic starts happening.”
