Completing any physical feat is something to celebrate, whether it's your first time at an obstacle course race and you're just getting your footing, your fifth time at a starting line and you're shooting for a personal record, or your 100th time climbing a scraggly cliffside atop a mountain bike. With the right training, nutrition, and mindset, your body is capable of overcoming unimaginable undertakings.
But what do you do when distances that previously felt unreachable now feel like an easy training run, or when your thirst for a challenge feels truly unquenchable? These are the questions that the ultra-endurance athletes and unbreakable beings behind Peak Races and Spartan Extreme Endurance set out to answer when they began creating some of the world's most INSANE events imaginable.
These events are designed to push you past your breaking limit, to reconstruct human potential, and to build iron resolve. They are not for the faint of heart or will, and, in some cases, you may even have to sign a waiver acknowledging that death is a real possibility. If you truly think you have what it takes, here's every extreme endurance event on the 2023 schedule.

The Spartan Death Race is the world's toughest race with iterations in both the summer and winter each year, and has seen just 10% of its racers complete its absolutely brutal itinerary in the past 10 years. Racers arrive at Riverside Farm in Pittsfield, Vermont hacking only a short (but oddly specific) packing list of items and blissfully unaware of the challenges they will face in the coming hours, or even when the race will begin.
Though there is no set length of any one Death Race, a typical iteration lasts around 72 hours and features soul-shattering tasks like hauling immense weight up the infamous Shrek's Mountaintop, completing 26.2 miles of barbed wire crawls or burpees, and memorizing mind puzzles while incredibly, deliriously sleep deprived.
And if the Summer Death Race is tortuous, the Winter Death Race is just one dig deeper.

The Snowdevil Ultra Snowshoe race is an epic 6.5-mile looped course (each loop with over 1,500 feet of elevation change) at Riverside Farm, and the first-ever event produced by Spartan's founders. The narrow, technical terrain carved out by Vermont's gargantuan Green Mountains. The wind will be whipping and biting hauntingly as racers brave multiple thousand-foot, three-mile climbs through a dense, dark spruce forest, which is aptly named the "Labyrinth." Do you have what it takes?

The Hurricane Heat is a mainly team-based endurance event that was born in 2011 when Hurricane Irene made race conditions practically impossible — except, of course, for a select few die-hard Spartans who showed up anyway to, quite literally, weather the storm. Today, Hurricane Heats accompany traditional obstacle course race weekends across the country and world, and feature grueling physical tasks, problem solving, leadership challenges, and individual performance tests under extreme conditions.

In 1993, Mountain Bike Hall of Fame inductee Roman Urbina created the world's first stage mountain bike race, La Ruta, in Costa Rica. It has since become widely regarded as the toughest cycling event on the entire planet. You kick off the race in the hot Caribbean lowlands on the Atlantic coast and pass through 20 microclimates before finishing at the Pacific Ocean three days later.
“La Ruta is a soul-swapping hard, exotically wild, singular journey across laughably steep inclines and hysterically steep descents," 2013 finisher Chris Case said. "You go through jungles, plantations, villages, across ecosystems and temperate zones, over volcanoes and beaches and terrain that you never quite imagined you could ride on a bike."

In La Siesta, you'll traverse the most challenging section of the La Ruta course on your mountain bike through 100K of deep jungle and complex, unique landscapes, including over 3,000 feet of elevation gain.

This is more like Shackleton's Endurance than any old summer camp. At Camp Spartan, a military-style boot camp for kids ages 10-17, we turn children into adults. Over five intense days, Spartan kids will be tired, hungry, and cold for 15-16 hours daily, and they'll work with veterans from Mt. Warfare school, Olympic wrestlers, and even Ivy League horticulturists. If you're ready to stop coddling your kids and raise real warriors, this camp will teach them that anything is possible if they put in the work.
