Spartan World Championship Weekend

Located a short ride from Lake Tahoe, this epic venue was once host to the 1960 Olympic Winter Games. Join us today for the greatest obstacle course race in North Tahoe Lake, Olympic Village, CA! The obstacle racing weekend of the year will feature two Spartan Race distances to choose from over two days of racing: The Spartan Beast and the Spartan Ultra Beast. Which challenge are you ready to accept? To do well, runners will need to prepare for the thin air as heights reach over 9,000 feet of elevation. Lake Tahoe is one of Northern California’s premier destinations and draws a healthy crowd year-round for its spectacular skiing, water sports, and outdoor activities. With 72 miles of shoreline straddling the California-Nevada stateline, there’s always somewhere new to explore and plenty of terrain for Spartans to roam. The most popular areas to visit include the more nature-oriented North Tahoe, or the party scene of South Tahoe. Or you can do it all -- visitors have the potential travel around the lake in under 90 minutes. Spartans are in for an adventure filled with traverses, climbs, crawls and perhaps even some swims. Come prepared. TOP REASONS TO TAKE ON THIS COURSE: 1. Elevation is one of the most defining elements of the Tahoe venue, starting at a surface elevation of 6,224 feet and working upwards of 9,000 feet only means one thing: get those lungs and quads ready for the long haul. 2. Cozy cabins are a plenty. Just make sure you book one early so you can be as close to all the action as possible. 3. Grover Hot Springs: Drive South to Markleeville and soak in a natural thermal hot springs. Your leg muscles will thank us for this recommendation. 4. Kayak to Fannette Island: The small island in Emerald Bay is the only island in Lake Tahoe and is worth a kayak trip. At the top is the remnant of an old “tea house.” 5. Bike the 165-mile Tahoe Rim Trail or at least part of it for extended adventure off the course. Chances are you'll only want to bike a section of the route as part of your active recovery. 6. Take to the skies and launch out from Slide Mountain on a powered hang glider. The view of Tahoe is hard to beat and you get to wear a "stylish" blue jumpsuit.

Lake Tahoe Spartan Sprint

Lake Tahoe Spartan Sprint

The Sprint may be our shortest distance race, but it’s still a favorite among both new and returning racers. It’s the perfect distance for those looking to start their Spartan journey. The Sprint also allows returning racers a manageable distance to see how far they can push themselves. Delivering 20-23 obstacles over 3-5 miles, you'll never run the same race twice. Once you complete the sprint you are 1/3 on your Spartan TRIFECTA: The ultimate Spartan achievement.

Lake Tahoe Spartan Ultra Beast

Lake Tahoe Spartan Ultra Beast

The Ultra is the pinnacle Spartan event in the world. The standard Ultra is held over 26+ miles, and it's not for the faint of heart - you'll face epic terrain, punishing obstacles, and even some surprises thrown in. The Ultra is the only Spartan event featuring strict time cutoffs that must be met. *Please note that not everyone who signs up for an Ultra will actually finish.

BUILD A TEAM: Strength comes in numbers.

Callout your friends, co-workers and loved ones to get off the couch and into the mud.

Whether they’re helping you over the wall or chasing you up the mountain, make sure they’re with you at the starting line.

Teams can be any size but must have at least 4 members to be included in the team rankings.

TEAM REGISTRATION

The best way to ensure that you are starting at the exact same start time as your friends is to create a Team during registration (or have your friends Join your team!).

Any racers that are registered as part of a team, on the SAME DAY in the SAME TIME BLOCK (Elite vs. Competitive vs. Morning vs. Afternoon), will be moved to the common team start time in each block when start times and bib numbers are assigned (about 10 days prior to the event). Racers that are registered for Sunday will not be moved to Saturday with a team, or vice versa.

Team times are NOT determined by the captains start time. Team members will be grouped together within each block (Elite, Competitive, Morning OR Afternoon), based on the preferred time that the majority of team members in that block choose.

Racers that are registered for Elite or Morning start times will NOT be grouped with racers in the Afternoon start times or vice versa.

For more detailed team information please see: 2016: Team Registration and Start Times.

SPECTATORS: Bring your friends and family. (Your biggest fans)

Bring your friends and family to the race to watch you conquer obstacles, dominate the finish line and receive your medal!

Racers, your fans will motivate you over the wall and past the finish line. You wouldn’t believe how far a cheering section will go when you’re exhausted. Your fans will also enjoy music, raffles, entertainment, and festival challenges.

Most importantly, fans will receive a front row seat to watch racers from a safe, comfortable, and relatively mud-less (no promises) Spartan Race festival ground area! And, when it’s over, they receive muddy hugs from thrilled Spartan athletes. After all, what’s a sport without fans?

Cost: $20 Online until Friday prior to the Event. $25 on site (Cash Only).

As a Spartan Race spectator, you’ll get: $5 Spartan bucks redeemable at the merchandise tent, access to view multiple key obstacles on the course, finish line viewing, the vendor tents, and hot food for sale on the grounds!

For detailed spectator information, please see: The Spartan Race Spectator Guide.

ADULT SPECTATOR PACKAGE: Includes one spectator pass and one ticket to access the Tram and Gondola

Tram and Gondola Access

One ticket gets you access to the Aerial Tram (Guided ride up to “High Camp”) and Funitel (un-guided gondola ride to “Gold Coast”), both of which depart from the Village near the start line and rise 2000 ft offering panoramic views, access to over 20 spartan obstacles, and a gateway to some incredible dining, hiking and spectating during the Spartan World Championships 2016. Both the Tram and Funitel can be ridden up and down unlimited times in the same day with one ticket and can be linked at the peak with a 0.5 mile walk.

SPECTATORS and anyone NOT racing or volunteering on a particular day must purchase tickets to ride the Tram and Funitel.
