What Does it Mean to Spartan Up?

Here is Joe in his own words:

Think about those folks that were never broken. Think about Shackleton. Think about Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. These people faced massive obstacles, but somehow pushed through, against all odds. That’s why history remembers them; that’s why they excite us; that’s why they inspire us.That spirit is in all of us. We just need to unlock it.

Spartan Race has become a tribal movement: Whether it’s the thousand people that show up for workouts on the beach with us, Whether it’s the ten thousand people that show up to race with us, Or whether it’s the 3.5 million people and counting on our Facebook page…

This little spark of an idea — to try and show people what they are capable of by truly challenging them — has turned into a forest fire.

But it’s more than a race – it’s become a lifestyle. It’s got people eating healthier. It’s got people inspiring others. It’s really unbelievable what’s happened. And this all came out of this one idea: that we all need adversity to grow.

It’s been an amazing ride. The people we meet at Spartan Races everyday are just incredible people who have overcome all kinds of odds. Every race someone comes up and hugs me and says, “I just want you to know that you’ve changed my life.” And I think to myself, “I didn’t change their life — they changed their life”. All we did was provide the platform and the tools. It’s hard to stay motivated. It’s hard to wake up early in the morning and go work out. It’s hard to keep that relationship going. It’s hard to build a business… But if you have the right tools, it’s not so hard.

And Spartan Up is about showing us how to use the tools we already have. Spartan Up is really a culmination of all the things I’ve learned from my life, but even more importantly, from the million plus people who have changed their lives, and are inspiring me. I’m proud of this book, and can’t wait for you to read it. So pick up a copy, come join the movement — and Spartan Up. It will change your life.
