Miami Sprint Weekend Preview 2015

By: Spartan SGX coach Courtney Waterbury

Miami is well known for its white sandy beaches, crystal blue water and cultural diversity. It is also known for an epic history of Spartan Races. This year, Spartan storms Vista View Park for the first time. Whether it’s your last Spartan Race of the year or your first ever, the warm weather climate of Florida is too perfect to pass up.

Vista View Park in Davie provides the Spartan course designers with over 272 acres to work with for the Sprint. While Florida is pretty flat, this park has rolling hills and swampy meadows throughout. As always, the obstacles will challenge, and the Spartan photographers will be there to take your FREE race pictures. Don’t forget to give them a big smile!

This venue includes offers for all ages. Come out with your little Spartans for the Junior Varsity kids race (ages 4-8). The ½-mile race takes off at 10:30AM, 12:30PM and 2:30PM, and the Varsity race (ages 9-13, 1 mile in length) starts at at 10AM, 12PM and 2PM. Grandma and grandpa are also welcome to come along and watch their grandkids enjoy themselves. Hey, they might even get motivated to try a Spartan Race for themselves.

Last year, the Miami Spartan Race was sunny, hot, and scenic at Oleta River State Park. That race brought out some of the top names, including first place elite men’s racer Brakken Kraker, who finished in 1:08. John Yatsko finished second — by seconds — right on Kraker’s heels. In third place, we had Isaiah Vidal at 1:10. The women’s results began with elite racer April Dee taking the top podium spot with a finish time of 1:22. Following behind were Debbie Koch at 1:32 and Hanna Orders at 1:34.
After you finish the Spartan Miami Sprint, you can venture on down the road about 7 miles to the Flamingo Gardens or take the family for a thrilling boat tour at Everglades Day Safari. Forty minutes South you will find the sandy, white South Beach (rated the #1 beach by the Travel Channel). Heck, you might even find some buried treasure left behind by the famous pirates such as Gasparilla, Blackbeard and Lafitte.

Don’t forget to grab your finisher t-shirt and check out all the awesome swag you can pick up at the merchandise booth. Then strut your accomplishments all over Miami!
